Oct 09, 2018 Can anybody help me understand why I cant download office 365 2016 when clearly it should be supported by my system? Office for Mac is supported on the three most recent versions of macOS. With the release of Mojave, it may no longer be compatible with El Capitan. Posted on Oct 3, 2018 4:00 AM. View answer in context. Microsoft: Office 365 for Mac subscribers must run newer editions of macOS Starting in September, only Macs running macOS Sierra or High Sierra will receive new Office 365 feature updates. Under Product Information, you'll find your Office product name and, in some cases, the full version number. 1 - Product name, such as Microsoft 365 ProPlus or Office Home and Student. 2 - Version number, which includes version, build number, and the type of installation such as Click-to-run or Windows Store. Office 365 for Mac needs Mojave, Sierra or High Sierra. The ‘subscription’ Office 365 for Mac available now needs the MacOS released in the last two years. That’s version 10.12 (Sierra) or later. If your computer has 10.11 (El Capitan) or earlier, Office 365 for Mac will still work and get Microsoft’s mainstream support.
Technically, you don't need to remove an older version of Office on Macs. The new version won't overwrite any old files or anything. The applications use their own com files and whatnot, so they don't even share folders. The only thing they'll share is the application location, if you put it in the default location for applications when installed.
If its not absolutely necessary, you can just remove any shortcuts to the old copy of 2011 and put a new shortcut on the dock for 2016.
The harddisk of the MacBook crashed. Now I want te re-install Office 365, but the latest version needs 10.12.0. My MacBook (medio 2009) has El Capitan 10.11.6. More is not possible. Who knows a sol.
If you need to uninstall 2011, all that you really need to do is drag application(s) from the Applications folder to the recycle bin and empty it.
However, if you feel more comfortable doing a clean uninstall, you can use these instructions:
